Simmy in Shanghai (A New Yorker in the People's Republic of China)

I am a student of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Webb Institute, New York and am in China for a two-month internship with Herbert Software Solutions Inc.

I landed in Shanghai on the night of December 30, 2009 and am very excited to be here.

Making Waves a Webbie in Sharjah

The months of January and February at Webb Institute are affectionately referred to as "Winter Work," a time for students to head off to internships in the marine industry. Third and fourth-year students are required to get jobs in design and engineering offices.

I'm working this year in Sharjah, UAE for an active company in the Middle Eastern offshore industry. My principal work is in the restoration of a 200-foot motor yacht that was built in the 1940s in Bath, ME.

Making Waves chronicles my work and travel in Sharjah, Dubai, and Egypt.
