New Director of the Webb Family Singers

We are extremely happy to report that the role of WooFS Director (vacated with the retirement of Dean Emeritus Roger Compton) has been filled by Mr. James Ludwig.  James received his undergraduate degree from Berklee College of Music, and is expected to receive his Masters in Music Education from Queens College’s Aaron Copland School of Music this December.

James has a choral music background and presently teaches middle school chorus and general music.  He has performed internationally in choirs, and his composition, Joys Seven, for a mixed choir, will be published by Hinshaw Music this year.  According to his philosophy and vision, a conductor’s role is about “invitation.”  As James himself said in his letter of introduction, “Chorus becomes a team effort.  After singers accept this invitation to sing and to be invested in a chorus, the work of learning music can become the joy of singing.”

Under James’ direction, the WooFS performed two new songs and selections from their spring 2011 program for Family Weekend and the recent CLAG (Class Agent 2 forum).  They are now working on holiday selections for their December concert and welcome any Webb Alumni in the local area to please join them.
