Life at Webb
Good food cooked by a real chef, light airy rooms
yards from the water, and an active, close-knit, honest community: life on campus is great!
Accommodations
Webb’s campus a walled, 26-acre estate with its own
private beach is special, and Webb requires students to live and eat on campus. The men live on the second
and third floors of Stevenson Taylor Hall. The women live on the second floor of the model basin and in James G. Motley Hall.
Students eat in Stevenson Taylor three squares Monday through
Friday, brunch, and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Students also use the student
kitchen to cook up their own food when the munchies strike.
Student Self-Management
Webb’s student body is largely self-governing. Students actually help
determine and implement the policies that govern conduct on campus. Two institutions keep this system in place: the
Student Organization and the Student Court. Underlying these institutions is an important tradition, the Honor Code,
which mandates that Webbies maintain the highest standards of conduct at all times. The upshot is that students have
an unusually strong voice on campus, and a sense of trust and security is widespread.
Maintenance
At Webb, students share in maintaining the facilities. The
upkeep of the labs, the shops, and other facilities is handled through a student labor program
called “Beaver Day” — the work assignments are called “beavers.” The student government
hands out the assignments.
