Webb Teams Place First and Second in SNAME Student Design Competition

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers sponsors an annual Student Design Competition, otherwise known as the International Student Workboat Small Craft Yacht Design Competition (ISWSCYDC).

Webb fielded two entries from teams comprised of members of the Class of 2007. These entries took first and second place. Congratulations are in order for recent graduates Nathan Pratt, Mark D'Angelo and Jon Lievo for taking first place, and to Robert Barra and Patrick Faas for finishing a close second.

According to SNAME's website, "the ISWSCYDC is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Ocean Engineering program at an accredited college/university or in a small craft design program..."

The student competition guidelines specify that "Students can enter as individuals or in teams of up to three students. Designs can be for any small craft/yacht type as long as the displacement is below 500 MT. Three prizes will be issued for $1,500, $750 and $500."

The first place winning design was entitled "Modular Express Cruiser." The second place winner was "Hybrid Solar Electric Sailboat." Awards will be presented at SNAME's annual meeting in October 2007.
