We are Sad to Report the Passing of Norman A. Hamlin, Former Professor of NA at Webb

The Alumni Association regrets to announce that Norman A. Hamlin ‘44B, former Professor of Naval Architecture at Webb from 1964 to 1987, and a mentor and friend to many alumni, passed away quietly on October 29 in Maine. Professor Hamlin had recently been selected as the recipient of this year’s William Selkirk Owen Award in recognition of his contributions to Webb and to the marine profession. Norman's wife Barbara will be accepting the award in his honor at the Annual Banquet. In anticipation of his impending death, representatives of the Executive Committee gathered with other Webb alumni at his bedside on October 27 and presented the award to him in person. Alumni and other friends of the Webb Family are asked to keep Professor Hamlin and his family in their prayers. Alumni who knew Professor Hamlin may also want to consider attending the banquet if that was not already planned in order to hear the introduction of the Owen Award for Norman by George Gilmore '57 and share in the presentation to Barbara and his children.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, November 12th. The service will take place at First Parish Church (UCC) in Brunswick, Maine. The church is located at the intersection of Maine Street and Bath Road adjacent to Bowdoin College. Mostly street parking in the general area and a nearby Hannaford supermarket lot should be used. The telephone number for the church office is 207-729-7331.
