This coming year, Webb Institute will again host the 2nd annual Ironclad Triathlon, presented by Sunrise Tri. The race will be on May 24th, 2008 and will feature the same course as last year. Participants will begin with a half mile swim off Webb beach, then a 13.5 mile bike ride through Glen Cove and then finish with a 5k run through neighboring Welwyn Preserve. Last year’s event was a huge success, with nearly 200 competitors and over 60 volunteers. 18 Webb students participated and the majority of the volunteer force was comprised of Webb Institute community members. A delicious post race buffet style breakfast was provided by the Culinary Management Corporation. This coming year we hope to build on the success of last year and make this race the premiere sprint-distance triathlon on Long Island.

All are welcome to participate! All you need is desire (and maybe a bike and some running shoes). For many people, the 2007 Ironclad was their first triathlon, so if you’ve been considering taking on a challenge for 2008, this would be great. You can compete as an individual or a two or three person relay. However, the slots are limited and the race is expected to fill up within a few weeks, so sign up soon.
