Webb Institute Awards First Glosten Scholar
GLEN COVE, NY - On Sunday,
March 18th Webb Institute presented
its first Glosten Associates Scholarship Award to Mr. Robin S. Rose of Monroeville, PA. Mr. Rose is a member
of the Class of 2009 and is ranked number one in his class. Webb Institute’s President, RADM
Robert C. Olsen, Jr., USCG (Ret.) along with Mr. William Hurley, President of The Glosten Associates,
presented the award to Mr. Rose.
Dr. Lawrence R. Glosten (Webb ’40) and Lois ("Pete") Glosten, founders of The Glosten
Associates, Inc. of Seattle, WA along with many
Webb Institute alumni employed at The Glosten Associates made generous donations to create this room and board
scholarship. Since all tuition costs for Webb students are covered by the school, the only expense to the
student is room and board along with books. The scholarship award covers room and board for a worthy student.
Dr. Larry Glosten Jr., the S. Sloan Colt Professor of Banking
and International Finance, Chair of Finance and
Economics Division at Columbia University, Graduate School of Business was there to represent his parents. During
the ceremony, he stated that his father is indebted to the school for providing a free education in Naval Architect
and Marine Engineering. For without this exceptional education, his father would not have gone on to
found The Glosten Associates.
President Olsen stated during the award
ceremony, “Webb Institute is fortunate to have the support of
The Glosten Associates. This scholarship is a wonderful addition to Webb Institute in its Mission to
educating the brightest students.”
After the award was presented, Mr. Rose stated, “I am deeply
honored to receive this award. It is nice not to
have to worry about money while trying to studying – the burden has been lifted.”
Webb Institute was established by William H. Webb
in 1889. Webb provides all its students with a full-tuition
scholarship thereby assuring highly capable students the opportunity to get an excellent education regardless
of financial means. The students obtain a high quality engineering education while gaining professional
competence in naval architecture and marine engineering through a series of industrial internships.
Graduating students earn a dual degree that
requires the completion of 146 credit hours within four
years of enrollment. You may view more information on
