10/6: MAISA Club Championships
On November 5-6, 2011, the Webb Institute Sailing team competed in the MAISA Club Championships hosted by Fordham and Columbia Universities in City Island, New York. Webb qualified for the event way back on September 24-25 at Cornell University. This season was the first time in recent history that Webb qualified for the championship and the team was very happy to attend.
The team was greeted by variable breeze and temperatures just above freezing both days. The racing was highly competitive, as one could expect for an event of this magnitude. Doug Zangre and Marc Smith sailed A-division while James Codega and Dylan Froriep/Michael LaRose sailed B-division. The guys sailed their hardest and were competitive with the top of the fleet, even though their results didn’t always show it. Webb finished 13th out of 18 teams. This weekend was the final race of Webb’s fall sailing season. The team is looking forward to improving for the spring and many more seasons to come.
