Webb Institute vs. Sarah Lawrence – September 26, 2010

Webb played Sarah Lawrence on the Sunday of Family Weekend. With the team banged up from the Albany game, Webb played valiantly, but lost to Sarah Lawrence 9-1 in a hard fought game. With captain Josh Lambertsen ’11 out because of a twisted ankle and many others treating injuries from the Albany game, the defensive effort shown against Albany could not be matched for the Sarah Lawrence game. Webb, however, had a quick start, unlike many of the games this season. After giving up a penalty kick goal, a long throw in from captain Michael Cheng ’12 and the offensive pressure of Sean Doran ’12 and Schuyler Needham ’12 would force a handball in the penalty area of Sarah Lawrence. Schuyler Needham’s equalizing penalty kick goal not only leveled the score at 1-1, but also continued his consecutive game scoring streak. With Sarah Lawrence’s offense bearing down, Dan Dwyer ’13 made a last ditch heroic effort to save the tie, but was dismissed for the intentional hand ball leaving Webb with 10 players. With another penalty kick goal from Sarah Lawrence, Webb had to quickly regroup with only 10, but fatigue and injuries from the previous day’s game against Albany left Webb in a bad position. Student fan Nick Walker after the game stated “they played good situational football” considering the circumstances, and he is hopeful that the team continues to improve and win the remaining games.
