3/28 – Webb vs. Culinary Institute of America

The 2010 Webb Tennis team began the season with a trip up north, just a few clicks south of the arctic circle on Sunday. The date was March 28, and the temperature was only a few degrees higher, as were the winds! The brave descendents of Robert E. Peary battled well in their first matches of the season! #1 Singles, Michael Cheng had a close encounter with the top player from the Culinary Institute of America , just coming up shy in an entertaining center court match. Dale Pederson, David Donatelli, and Tophi Rose all played “Iron Man” tennis on the day, playing both singles and doubles on the ice rink up in Poughkeepsie! The highlight of the day was the “Miracle on Ice” victory by freshmen Colin Spillane and Jonathan Soja, with the WIN in their doubles match over a highly touted CIA crew! There was no borscht or chili this time, so we were a little disappointed, but overall, it was a good start to a promising season!
Up next on Thursday, April 1 are the Merchant Marines of King’s Point, where last year, the #1 doubles team of Cheng and Doran beat the best the USMMA had to offer!
